7 tips for Iceland Elopement!

As an Elopement photographer, I have been to Iceland countless times. For me, Iceland was love at first sight. I want to help you prepare for your perfect elopement, so these are some tips are based on my own experiences and I hope they can help you avoid some common mistakes.

Iceland Elopement

1. North or South

I understand that it is almost impossible to choose only one location. Unfortunately, it is not possible to see everything in one day. Personally, I prefer the north, because there are fewer tourists. However, in the south there are more recognizable landmarks, so be prepared to not be the only people at Black Sand Beach.

If you can't decide, ask yourself would you rather find a hidden gem, or visit the most famous landmarks.

2. Don’t worry about the weather

Don't be discouraged if the forecast calls for rain because it is always rainy in Iceland. However, we love Iceland for its dark skies and unique northern beauty, am I right? All we can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Luckily, there are some things we can do to make it as painless as possible.

From May to September means you can finally wear a jacket outside for more than two minutes! If you want to catch the sun in Iceland, then the best time to visit is in June. During this time the weather is warm, and all the hills are covered with blooming lupines. Believe me, It's amazing!

3. Beauty at every turn

You do not need to travel far to find a beautiful location for your elopement! In Iceland there is beauty around every corner. This photo was taken only 10 minutes from Reykjavik.

Personally, I prefer photoshoots at lesser-known hidden gems. In my experience, if you avoid overly touristy places, you will feel more comfortable and will achieve more natural and unique photos.

4. Don’t forget about the details

What else is possibly needed when there is breathtaking nature and love in the air? The answer is... details! Take a bouquet of dried flowers with you, write each other love letters, or maybe even bring a bottle of your favorite wine! The devil is in the details! And don't be afraid to ask your elopement photographer to share some ideas with you.

Shooting with a drone is an absolute must in Iceland! This is one of the best ways to show the beauty of Iceland's ethereal landscapes! Ask your photographer to take a drone for more breathtaking photos!

6. Comfort

Remember that Iceland is a harsh and wild country! Forget about restaurants, restrooms, and cafes (Starbucks? What is this?). Even refueling is a rare phenomenon🚀⛽️🤪. Of course, in Reykjavik you can find some comforts, but outside the city it is nearly impossible.

Be sure to take warm clothes, a lot of food, and a swimsuit with you. Swimming in the thermal hot springs after a long journey is always a great idea. If you take care of your comforts and needs, your Elopement will be incredible!

7. Music

Be prepared for long car rides. Speed limits are strictly enforced, and the landscape can sometimes feel monotonous. It is common to spend up to three hours in the car just in one direction. I think the right music playlist is as necessary as bringing a good snack =)

I would love to share my Iceland playlist with you.

Feel free to ask me any questions! I know everything about Iceland and would be happy to share my experiences with you.
